Little Shelford playground

The Wale Recreation Ground Action Group

Welcome to our Little Shelford Playground webpage!

As a group of local mums we have enthusiastically taken on the challenge of renovating our village playground at the Wale Recreational ground.  We have formed a committee, of the following members;

Susie Manning

Liz Carrothers

Jo Thorndyke

Erica Morris-Lowe

Nicky Luhrs

Susannah Corney

The existing playground equipment was last updated in 2002 and the Little Shelford Parish Council is well aware that it is now overdue for renovation and updating.  Any such work is expensive especially for a small village like ours. To make this feasible we will need to secure grant funding and to be successful in so doing we will need to demonstrate local support and fundraising.

After the village’s fantastic fundraising campaign for the fantastic new pavilion, we as a committee feel an updated playground would complete an exciting and fresh new look to the facilities of this village.  We have a great opportunity to fully utilise our beautiful recreation ground that is at present a missed opportunity.

The overall budget for the playground scheme is set at £80,000.  We are hoping this will be made up of grants of  £50-60,000, from such bodies as Amey-Cespa, Wren and smaller grants from the South Cambs.  We are therefore looking at fundraising in the village between £15,000 - £20,000.   We have already secured £2000, but have yet to start fundraising and applying for grants.  With the Little Shelford weekend and various fundraising events throughout the year we feel this is achievable with the support of the village.

Fundraising events for 2016;

A QI style alternative quiz!  7.30pm  5th March

There will be other various fundraising events throughout the year.

Please bear us in mind if you have any fundraising opportunities in the coming year.  We would love to involve the village community groups.
